Oral surgery center to open in former restaurant

Rockport — A state-of-the-art oral surgery center will move into the building that has housed a series of unsuccessful restaurants.

Whitewater, LLC purchased Jan. 2 the Route 1 property in Rockport from Realty Resources Hospitality Rockport, LLC which is owned by Joseph Cloutier.

Whitewater is owned by Russell Collett, an oral and maxillofacial surgeon from Freeport who has a practice in Portland. Whitewater also purchased in June 2017 a commercial condominium in the Oakland Common medical complex located nearby on Route 1 from Dr. Neil Smith. A satellite oral surgery office is located there.

Smith's practice had closed in November 2016.

Extensive renovations are planned before the former restaurant building at 1075 Commercial St. opens as an oral surgery center. A timetable for opening has not been announced.

A telephone message was left Wednesday for Collett.

Walker's restaurant opened in May 2017 and closed in September 2017.

The building was constructed in 1990 as a Denny's Restaurant. That closed in 2005. There was later a sports pub and a Chef's Table which closed in 2007. Another Denny's opened in June 2011 and closed on Christmas Eve, 2016.

There is an oral surgeon in Belfast and she and her crew are wonderful. Cynthia Battel and her staff took great care of me and it didn't cost an arm and a leg.

Glad to hear this, traveling to Portland for services is inconvenient for many.
