Warren — Several spectators were on hand Sept. 10 as the building that used to house Andes Variety came tumbling down.

Owner Craig Stewart said he is finally over the anxious part of the process, as the new, larger building is coming together. "Everybody has been super-supportive," Stewart said.

The store was closed last week in preparation for the demolition, and Stewart said the new store should open in a couple of weeks.

The new redemption center next door is already open.

The Warren mainstay at 1625 Atlantic Highway had served in many capacities since it was built in the 1920s.

According to the plans, the redeveloped site will reduce the number and width of curb cuts along Atlantic Highway, which Stewart said would aid traffic flow coming and going from the store.

Wes Thames, vice president of construction for Priority Real Estate Group LLC., previously said all deliveries will be done through the back of the new facility, leaving the front open for parking.

Stewart said a grand opening will be scheduled later.
