Odeon Holiday Concert 2017

On Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., Bay Chamber Concerts and Music School will present the annual Odeon Holiday Concert at the Rockport Opera House, 6 Central St. The performance is free and open to the public.

This concert features the Adult Odeon Orchestra joined by the Odeon Brandenburg Ensemble. Odeon Brandenburg is an intergenerational group of string musicians who are mentored by Bay Chamber Music School faculty members April Reed-Cox, cello; and alumnus Nathan Hillman, viola. Conducted by Deidre McClure, the group will perform Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 5.

Also joining the Odeon ensembles for this performance will be the Bay Chamber Jazz Ensemble and the Suzuki Twinklers. The Jazz Ensemble, an intergenerational group new to Bay Chamber starting last year is led by Mike Whitehead, trumpet; and Nate Martin, bass. The Suzuki Twinklers are students of violin faculty members Carol Preston and Heather Kahill.

Odeon was founded in 2000 and merged with Bay Chamber in 2006. Since that time, it has expanded to three ensembles featuring musicians from our surrounding communities from age 9 to adult. Odeon conductor McClure took over leadership of the group in 2011 and said that this concert demonstrates new directions for Bay Chamber’s ensemble program that” we are all very excited about.”
