St. George — Four area food pantries were the recipients of hundreds of bags of potatoes, thanks to an annual event sponsored by the Grand Lodge of Maine, Independent Order of Odd Fellows.

Each November, the organization sponsors a run to Houlton to pick up potatoes for distribution to food banks and other organizations throughout the state. This year's "spud run" took place Nov. 12.

St. George Lodge No. 132 of Tenants Harbor participated, as it has in the past. Noble Grand Brooks Stevens and Past Grand Mark Bartholomew made the drive to Houlton Sunday, Nov. 12, and assisted in the distribution of the potatoes Nov. 13.

Cushing/Friendship food pantry, Thomaston Food Bank, and AIO Food Pantry iin Rockland were among the local recipients, with the remaining bags donated to St. Bernard's Soup Kitchen in Rockland and a couple of individual families.

The Odd Fellows bought 250 bags of potatoes for this year's project.

Very nice day's work by members of St. George Lodge, IOOF. Odd Fellows and Rebekahs are still active in our area, and do a lot of good. Nice pictures too, Mark!
