Rockland — Alexa Barstow always stood tall and strong in front of the cage for the Oceanside High School field hockey team and now the senior's dedication and excellence in the classroom is being recognized.

Barstow, a captain for the Mariner stick squad, has been selected to the Maine Field Hockey Coaches Association 2020 All-Academic Team.

“Alexa has been part of the Mariner field hockey program for many years, starting in the youth league," said Oceanside coach Joanna Hall. "It has been a pleasure to coach her and see her grow as a student-athlete and as a leader. Not only is she an All-State caliber goalie and an excellent student, Alexa is an exceptional young lady. I could not be more pleased to see her recognized for her hard work in the classroom and dedication to her team.”

The MFHA is a nonprofit organization that works to promote field hockey in the state. Its members mostly consist of high school coaches.
