Rockland — Oceanside High School plans to hold a drive-in graduation for the class of 2020.

Principal Jesse Bartke announced the plans May 12.

The drive-in graduation will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 9. The location has yet to be announced. The ceremony will allow students and their families to line up in vehicles and drive up and pick-up their diplomas while keeping the required six-feet from other people.

The ceremony will either be simulcast or broadcast immediately after the conclusion of the graduation so people from outside the area can view the event as well, the principal said.

There are a few locations being considered but a location has yet to be picked.

Customary graduation ceremonies across the country have been postponed or canceled because of the concerns over the spread of COVID-19.

Bartke announced that a one year reunion will be held in spring 2021 for graduates from the class of 2020.

"We are working hard to ensure that we can maintain as much of the tradition and the important aspects of each of these events," Bartke said in a statement May 12.

The senior prom for 2020 has been canceled. All members of the class of 2020 will be gifted a ticket to the 2021 Prom.

The honors brunch has been rescheduled for August 2020.

Scholarship Night will be broadcast virtually Thursday, June 4.

The inspiration ceremony will be broadcast virtually and will be a student produced event Sunday, June 7.

The last day of in-school education was March 13. Since then, education has been conducted remotely.
