Rockland — Oceanside peewee football, which continues renovations and improvements to its Thomaston Street field, will hold registration on Monday, Aug. 7 from 4:40 to 6 p.m.

The registration will be at the Thomaston Street field, just up from the high school football facility.

Season practices begin on Monday, Aug. 14.

Oceanside peewee football is made up of three classes: Blue Jackets are first- and second-graders, junior varsity for grades three and four and varsity for grades five and six.

Oceanside plays in the Coastal Youth Football League, which includes opponents from Belfast, Camden, Medomak, Lincoln County and Boothbay.

First- and second-graders play a modified game with each team getting eight possessions from the 40-yard line.

Junior varsity and varsity play on a full field with regular rules. Each team plays six to eight regular-season games then advances to the playoffs, which include quarterfinal, semifinal and championship games.

Last year, the Oceanside varsity and jayvees won league championships.

Brad Galley of the peewee football program said improvements to the Thomaston Street field have been made this summer, including taking down the old rusty softball backstop, filling in low spots in the field, clearing behind the outfield fence and tearing down parts of the fence destroyed over the years.

"We are working on getting the field lined before practice starts as well," he said. "We are also, with the help of Lowe's, installing a new fence along the road that will provide a barrier from the practice field and the road and help keep the kids from straying out into the road. The material was provided by JBI and Peter Overlock provided his time and equipment. J.K. Kalloch also will be doing some seeding this week."
