Thomaston — Police are investigating a vandalism spree at Oceanside Middle School that occurred over the weekend.

The damage was discovered when a custodian checked on the building Feb. 17.

Thomaston Police Chief Tim Hoppe said four exterior windows were broken out, and then someone or multiple people went inside and caused additional damage. He said fire extinguishers were discharged inside the school and graffiti was written on walls and floors inside the building.

A thick window leading into the administrative offices was also broken.

The chief said blood was found and said he hopes that DNA testing could identify who was involved.

The broken exterior windows were on the side of the school, facing away from the former Lura Libby School, which is now home to municipal offices including the police department.

The chief said an alarm did not sound when the break-in occurred.

School officials were at the school after the break-in was discovered.
