South Thomaston — Nomination papers will be available until Jan. 25 for a single seat on the Board of Selectmen.

At  the South Thomaston Select Board meeting, Tuesday, Jan. 8, Chair Walter Reitz announced he did not plan to seek reelection, according to a news release from the Town Office.

Reitz noted his desire to have robust community discussions on pressing town issues, according to the news release. "Between town landing improvements, determining the future of the Gilford Butler School and redesigning the three-town transfer station, South Thomaston needs new energy, ideas and skills on this board. I will continue to be an engaged citizen, but feel the town will be better served by opening up a spot on the board," Reitz is quoted in the release.

No one has taken out papers yet for the seat, which will run three years.

The deadline to file papers is 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 25, at the municipal building.

Reitz was elected in 2016, succeeding Dorothy Meriwether, who did not seek reelection that year.

The annual town meeting is scheduled for March 25. The election will be held at that meeting.
