No contests yet for Rockland seats

Rockland — There are as yet no contested races for two City Council seats and one School Board seat up for election in November.

The deadline for candidates to file papers with the city clerk with signatures of at least 100 registered Rockland voters is Sept. 25.

As of Tuesday, Sept. 12, incumbent Councilor Valli Geiger, as well as resident Gregory Mason, had taken out nomination papers. Neither had returned their papers.

Mason is a retired contractor who now works at the Landings marina. He said he decided to run to represent what he said are the disenfranchised Rockland natives. He is a Rockland native.

Mason served on the School Administrative District 5 Board for three years, being elected in 2000.

Geiger, a nurse, has lived in Rockland for 20 years. She served, before joining the council, as chair of the city's Comprehensive Planning Commission.

She was elected to the council in 2014.

Mayor Will Clayton, whose term also expires in November, has announced he will not seek another term.

The election will be Nov. 7, although absentee ballots will be available 30 days earlier.

Incumbent Regional School Unit 13 Board member Carol Bachofner has taken out papers for re-election to the School Board. She has not yet turned in her papers.

Greg Mason will be the featured speaker at our community, "Speaker's Corner" Sunday September 17th 4p.m.

at the corner of Rite Aid park (Park Street & Main Street) Rockland. Come and learn from Greg, why he feels so strongly  about being on the council. If you are interested in being a featured speaker, call me Ananur 594-2565 or email me  thanks! Speaker's Corner began in London, at Hyde Park in the 1800's and still is going strong, now we have one of our own.
