‘News’ for Intergenerational Book Club

Jul 06, 2018

Thomaston — The Thomaston Intergenerational Book Club will discuss "News of the World” by Paulette Jiles Tuesday, July 17, at 2:30 p.m. in the main room of the library, located in the Thomaston Academy building on Main Street/Route 1.

Elderly widower and war survivor/veteran Capt. Jefferson Kyle Kidd travels through 1870 northern Texas, giving live readings to paying audiences hungry for news of the world. His own world changes when he agrees to deliver a young orphan to her relatives in San Antonio. Their 400-mile journey south through unsettled territory and unforgiving terrain, geographically and emotionally, results in a work of historical fiction that explores the boundaries of family, responsibility, honor and trust.

The Intergenerational Book Club comprises men and women of all ages who come together the third Tuesday of every month to share opinions and ideas about the book selection. All are welcome. Thomaston residents who would like to attend but need a ride should call the library at 354-2453 a week before the discussion.

The IGBC selection for August is “Americanah” by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, part of PBS’ The Great American Read. Copies will be available at the Circulation Desk. For the complete 2018 list, visit thomaston.lib.me.us.
