News Feature - Tom Peaco - Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce

The Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce held its 26th annual Business and Community expo Wednesday, April 10, at the Samoset Resort.

Executive Director Tom Peaco said the event had 120 booths showcasing local businesses, nonprofit organizations and museums.

Each year the event is held in the spring as anticipation builds for the busy summer tourist season. Peaco said the snowy weather this week may actually have helped attendance, since sunny skies can lead people to engage in other activities. Most years more than 1,000 visitors come to the event over the course of its five-hour span.

Local organizations offered free gifts, games, raffles and prizes to those visiting their booths. The Strand Theatre team actually offered visitors a chance to perform a scene in a movie before a green screen. In some scenes, for example, the attendee was encouraged to pretend they were running away from a building that was exploding.

Another highlight this year was the Owls Head Transportation Museum, which is raffling a Ford Thunderbird.

Peaco said local people who visit the expo often learn about a local service or product or team they had not known about before, and that is a big part of what the event is about.
