Newly-trained pups looking for a home

By Tracy Sala | Nov 19, 2013

Our pet picks of the week are Star, Loki, Jemma and Krash, four dogs that are nearly ready to graduate from our K-9 Corrections program at the Maine State Prison where they have been learning manners, basic commands and even a few tricks. The inmates/handlers have been training them for eight to 12 weeks at the prison under the guidance of our trainer Marie Finnegan from K9 Solutions Dog Training. Now, the dogs are getting ready to go home and be a part of someone's family.

Star is a lab/Rottie mix just about a year old. Loki is a happy nine-month-old hound mix. Also graduating are two puppies, Krash, an adorable Border Collie mix and Jemma, a Jack Russell mix. We are now accepting adoption applications for each of these dogs. To learn more about these dogs and to pick up an application stop by the shelter.

Hannaford in Rockland is once again offering Holiday Pet Bags specially packaged with much needed items from our wish list: dog and cat food, paper towels and cleaning supplies. These bags, priced at less than $10, have been instrumental in putting food in the bowls of our animals and other necessities to help us help the animals. Next time you're in Hannaford, please consider purchasing a holiday pet bag. We appreciate your support.

Does your pet need a rabies vaccination? We are hosting a low-cost Rabies Clinic Saturday, Nov. 23, at Warren Fire Department on Western Road from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dr. Craig Underhill from Warren Animal Hospital will be in attendance. The cost is only $12, cash only. Please bring your cats in a proper pet carrier and your dogs on a leash and last record of rabies shot if applicable.

Wish list includes canned cat food, guinea pig food, rabbit food, Ziploc bags (quart and gallon size), laundry detergent, bleach, large garbage bags, gift cards to Walmart and Staples.
