Karen Stevenson has agreed to join us at the Speaker's Corner of Rockland, located at the green park on the corner of Park & Main Streets next to Rite Aid, on Sunday,  October 22.October is nationally, "Domestic Violence Awareness month." Please join us!!! I hope you will come and learn about, "New Hope for Women," ask Karen some questions. This issue needs support. I believe that we all know someone who has suffered because of domestic and/or sexual violence. This is a very serious matter, world wide.

HISTORY

Domestic Violence Awareness Month evolved from the, “Day of Unity” held in October 1981 and conceived by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. The “Day of Unity," soon evolved into a week and in October 1987 the first National Domestic Violence Awareness Month was observed. In 1989 Congress passed Public Law 101-112, officially designating October of that year, as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. such legislation has been passed each year since.
