Rockport — Members of the Rockport Fire Department were busy installing equipment on the new "Squad 25" vehicle at the fire station on July 3. The truck is a different design from the department's other fire engines, and boasts a variety of devices which can be used for rescue and extinguishing purposes.

Fire Chief Jason Peasley said that the truck arrived at the station from Brunswick on June 30, and he and the Rockport firefighters have been working on the vehicle each day since, to get it ready for service. Squad 25 is a 2018 E-One Typhoon Pumper Truck. The Rockport Fire Department purchased specialty equipment for the vehicle, which can perform car extraction and some forestry services, in addition to serving as a rescue truck and a powerful water pump.

Rockport firefighters will get a chance to drive the truck later this week, when training exercises are held in the student parking lot of Camden Hills Regional High School. One of the department's remaining fire engines has been sold, and will be delivered to the fire department in Washburn.

The Rockport Select Board took a vote on June 25 to approve the lease-purchase agreement of the truck and associated accessories. The principal amount of financing for the "capital acquisition project" is $600,000, which was awarded to Androscoggin Bank at an interest rate of 4.19 percent. The lease-purchase agreement is for three years, after which the town will own the truck outright.
