Waldoboro — A new country store has opened in Waldoboro, offering some comfort food for people on the go.

Renee Grover and Jamie Barstow, who run Barstow Farms on Goshen Road, were unanimously approved in June to create Barstow Farms Country Store in a renovated 1763 building at 777 Main St., on the premises of Cider Hill Farms.

"It all started when someone asked us to raise a pig for them," Grover said Sept. 28. Now their farm boasts up to 300 animals in the summer -- chickens, pigs, steers, turkeys, lambs and laying hens.

Farm-raised meats and a wide variety of Maine products, including vegetables, fruits, syrup and crafts, as well as raw milk and cheeses, are available at the farm store, which opened Sept. 22.

The commercial kitchen allows offerings to include some take-and-bake meals, prepared cold salads and a small hot prepared food menu.

The weekly menu -- which can be found on the farm's Facebook page -- varies, but includes such dishes as beef stew, sausage bombs, chicken casserole, meatloaf with mashed spuds, pulled pork, lasagna, chop suey and more.

Approximately 20 other local farms that sell their products in the store, Grover said.

The other business located there is Rising Sea Medicinals, a community wellness retail store specializing in organic CBD products that are legal for all patrons.

Natural home remedies, lotions and soaps are some of the products sold.

Grover and Barstow are medical marijuana caregivers, cultivate organic medicines, and plan to offer educational consultation regarding the use and legality of the Maine medical marijuana program.

A portion of the building has a separate, private, secured consultation office. No THC products remain on the premises during non-working hours.

The store is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Food orders can be placed ahead by calling 790-8091.
