Hope — The nonprofit Sweet Tree Arts offers a new six-week after-school class with Hannah Wells, Picture a Story, starting Thursday, April 26. The class will meet Thursdays from 4 to 5 p.m.

Children will learn how to communicate a story through art by reading various short tales and taking a look at how artists take on the role of sharing their own stories through creative imagery. Children also will choose a story to illustrate themselves.

Participants will share illustrations, play drawing games, add inspiring illustrations to their journals, share their work, explore ideas of character through illustration, create book covers and “end pages” and make patterns and designs relating to original stories.

Wells is an illustrator and designer whose work is mostly inspired by the natural world. She recently graduated with an undergraduate degree from Lesley College of Art and Design; and is working at the Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland. Her work has been featured in the Camden International Film Festival, several gallery spaces and, most recently, in Ink & Arrow Magazine.

Cost is $60; financial aid is available. To register, visit sweettreearts.org or call 763-2770.
