Natural Resources Council launches environmental awards program

Feb 14, 2020

Every two years, The Natural Resources Council of Maine Brookie Awards will honor six young Mainers who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and made a significant impact in Maine’s environmental movement. NRCM Rising does this with the goal of learning from and inspiring each other to further Maine’s environmental movement.

According to the NRCM website, brook trout, while one of the smaller trout species, are strong, mighty, and captivating to watch. When brookies rise in the rivers and streams of Maine, their impact ripples far beyond that leap. The Brookie Awards recognize the young and mighty individuals whose positive impact on Maine’s environment ripples beyond themselves, much like true brookies.

Brookie Award recipients will receive a $1,000 cash prize, a professional video showcasing their environmental leadership and an all-expenses paid trip to attend the May 2020 award ceremony.

Applicants must: be between the ages 15 and 30, live or go to school in Maine and demonstrate positive, impactful leadership in Maine’s environmental movement.

NRCM Rising will accept applications until March 15, 2020. To nominate someone who would be a good candidate, click here. For more information visit brookieawards.org for more information or contact Natural Resources Council of Maine with questions.
