NAGA Xcel bronze gymnasts first in state championships

Waterville — The Xcel gymnastics team represented the North Atlantic Gymnastics Academy on Saturday, May 17 at the Alfond Youth Center. The event was hosted by Decal Gymnastics. NAGA had multiple individual event state champions and an all-around champion in the bronze division.

Lillian Dailey, 11, of Camden placed third on balance beam and floor exercise with scores of 7.9 and 8.275, respectively. Dailey placed fourth all-around at 32.775.

Alley Johnson, 10, of Lincolnville, finished 8.925 on vault (1st), 8.9 on uneven bars (1st), 8.5 on floor (2nd) and second all-around at 33.925.

Rose OʼBrien, 10, of Lincolnville, finished 8.750 on floor (1st), 8.9 on vault (2nd), 8.65 on uneven bars, 8.2 on balance eam and first all-around at 34.5.

Johnson, Dailey, and OʼBrien bested their floor exercise and all-around scores. Johnson also had personal bests on vault and uneven bars. OʼBrien bested her previous meet scores on all events.

The bronze team placed first in the state with a score of 101.2.

The Xcel program is designed to offer a broad-based, affordable, competitive experience outside the traditional Jr. Olympic Program to attract and retain a diverse group of athletes. The Excel gymnastics team is coached by Kathy Kandziolka.
