St. George — The St. George Parks & Recreation Department and its boosters will harbor its 19th annual Mussel Ridge Hoops Tournament Friday through Sunday, March 14-16 at the St. George School.

"The double-elimination tournament offers at least a dozen exciting basketball games, raffle prizes from local businesses, delicious hot and cold foods (with many homemade specialties and goodies), tons of snacks, a souvenir program complete with team rosters, local information, puzzles and games," said Ben Vail, recreation director. "And, most importantly, a gym full of players having fun buoyed by positive and supportive fans."

Featured in the 2014 tournament are fourth-grade (and a few second- and third-grade) boys and girls from the St. George, Thomaston, Cushing, Rockland, South Thomaston, Owls Head, Spruce Head, Warren, Waldoboro, Washington, Friendship and Union areas.

The games begin on Friday at 5:30 p.m. as the St. George boys host Thomaston and at 7 p.m. the St. George girls entertain Cushing. Saturday begins with the Medomak Valley boys versus Boothbay at 9 a.m. followed at 10:30 a.m. by the Medomak Valley girls against Thomaston.

Games on Saturday will sail on every one hour and 30 minutes with the final game of the day at 7:30 p.m.

Sunday’s championship games start with the boys at noon and the girls at 1:30 p.m. As with any double-elimination tournament, there is the possibility of another boys championship game at 3 p.m. and/or another girls championship game at 3:30 or 4 p.m.

Admission is free on Friday and Sunday (although donations are always welcome and appreciated). A one-time $4 admission fee is charged for adults on Saturday. A limited number of collectible tournament programs are available for $1 each beginning Friday night.
