Music, art to celebrate the Midcoast sky

The Solstice String Quartet features, from left, Josie Davis, Sophie Davis, Jaime Feldman and Colin Wheatley.

Waldoboro — Celestial sounds from the Solstice String Quartet will fill the air Friday night, June 23, in “A Little Night Music — A Celebration of Music, Art and the Evening Sky,”  a multimedia performance that also will feature projections of skyscape paintings from local artists and students.

The quartet will play Mozart's beloved “Eine kleine Nachtmusik (A Little Night Music)” and Schubert's “Rosamunde” String Quartet. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. Broad Bay Congregational UCC, 941 Main St./Route 220.

The Solstice String Quartet comprises violinists Josie and Sophie Davis of Waldoboro, violist Colin Wheatley and cellist Jaime Feldman. The musicians befriended each other when they were students at Oberlin Conservatory, and they since have pursued further study and work in the New England area. Collectively, the group has studied, performed and taught around the world from China and India to Jordan and Amsterdam.

Through a partnership with Miller Elementary School and local artists, the concert will provide an opportunity for community members to reflect on the beauty of the Midcoast through music and artwork themed around skyscapes — the sunrises, sunsets, night skies, storms and winter evenings that are such a defining part of the rural landscape.

Admission is by donation. For more information, call 832-6898 or email waldoucc@midcoast.com.
