Kirk Gentalen leads a group along the Erickson Fields Trail during a Mushroom Walk.

Rockport — Maine Coast Heritage Trust will host a free Mushroom & Nature Walk Saturday, Sept. 28 from 10 a.m. to noon at Erickson Fields Preserve, 164 West St., Rockport.

MCHT land steward and naturalist Kirk Gentalen will lead attendees on a guided hunt for the natural treasures of the forest and fields. He has over 20 years of experience, leading hikes and sharing the fungal world with thousands of people from Alaska to Maine. The natural history of mushrooms and their role in the ecosystems will be the focus of this day’s outing. The walk will focus on non-edible mushrooms, but Gentalen will also share his knowledge of birds, tracking and the animal and plant life of Erickson Fields. This walk is suitable for all ages.

Registration is not required, but RSVPs are appreciated. Email jalbury@mcht.org or call Joelle Albury at MCHT’s Aldermere Farm office at 236-2739.
