More political signs stolen in Camden

By Susan Mustapich | Sep 08, 2020

CAMDEN — More political signs were stolen last week, according to a Camden Police Department Facebook post.

On Sept. 3 around 8:15 a.m., a Sara Gideon sign and a Black Lives Matter sign were reported stolen from a private property, according to a police department report.

The Police Department's Facebook post asks that "if anyone may have observed someone near the intersection of Hosmer Pond and Melvin Heights Road during that time parked or out walking around to report it by calling the non-emergency line at 236-3030.

"Please call and report suspicious vehicles or persons when the activity is occurring so an officer can be dispatched to the area to investigate," the post continues.

"As a reminder, the department will be issuing criminal summonses when a suspect is identified.Theft is a Class E crime and carries a $500 fine."

Residents called in complaints on Aug. 5 about two Black Lives Matter signs being taken from a Molyneaux Road property; on Aug. 24 about a Defund Police sign taken the Park Street side of a residential property; and on Aug. 25 about an All Lives Matter sign taken from Mountain Street.

On Sept. 7 around 4:20 p.m., a complaint was called in that a van with political signs for candidate Michael Mullins was keyed from the driver-side door to the brake light. The incident was reported as taking place while the van was parked at Megunticook Market.

Listen folks. Construct your 'Bye-Don 2020' signs from snow plow marking wooden stakes and cardboard adorned with Sharpies (like the ones that Trump plots hurricanes with). That way if some tender little snowflake steals your sign ... presto... drive another one into the ground in the morning. Plowing stakes are laying all over the place and cardboard is plentiful and free in numerous dumpsters!!!!

Claire,

I see it as cleaning up the land of political pollution.  These signs have been out since at least June.  That is way too long to see them littering the wonderful yards and sides of the roads.  Aren't the signs given to the person to stick on their lawn?  There are better ways in which police officers could be spending their time than calling on people who are so upset about a darn sign!

Just don’t understand these tender little snowflakes who have no respect for the Constitution.  Private citizens have the right to free speech -particularly on their own property. Disgraceful that someone thinks they are above the law and they are entitled to steal from our fellow citizens.  Everyone should be outraged by this attempt to silence our Constitutional rights.  REAL PATRIOTS Support the Whole Constitution!

It is such a shame that police have to investigate these happenings.  So, someone stole your political sign.  Get another one or better yet, don't pollute the land with them!
