Midcoast youngsters compete at Fenway Park

Boston, Mass. — Two Midcoast ball players made the trek to fabled and historic Fenway Park, home of the 2014 World Champion Boston Red Sox, to participate in the New England level of Major League Baseball's Pitch, Hit and Run Competition on Saturday, May 31.

After advancing through the local level May 17 in Waldoboro May and the Maine sectional competition May 18 in Old Orchard Beach, Addie Jameson of Waldoboro (ages 11/12 girls — 626 points) and Jordan Powell of Friendship (ages 11-12 boys — 472 points) both placed third in their respective divisions in the Fenway-based event.

In the last seven years, five youngsters from the Waldoboro area, including Isaac Durkee, Nicholas DePatsy, Brett Collamore, Cassie Smeltzer and Maty Moore, have participated at the New England team competition at Fenway Park, said Kyle Santheson, Waldoboro recreation director.

With the addition of Jameson and Powell, now make that seven area youngsters who have achieved that impressive feat.
