Hilary Blake Pimentel of Hope is among the first-place winners of this year’s Arrive Alive Creative Contest; her entry was a comic book targeting texting while driving.

Five recent Maine high school graduates won first-place in the 11th annual Arrive Alive Creative Contest sponsored by the Law Offices of Joe Bornstein, including several from the Midcoast, and local students also placed in second and third in various categories. The contest asks students to come up with a creative message about the dangers of drinking and driving and distracted driving.

First-place winners include Hilary Blake Pimentel, whose comic book was submitted via Mid-Coast School of Technology in Rockland; Eliza Boetsch of Camden Hills Regional High School, who won the drawing category; and videographer Dan Rice of Winterport, who attends Hampden Academy. Other first-place projects were submitted by Liam Reading of Bangor High School (drawing) and Abigail Ouellette of Sacopee Valley High School (essay). The video category also saw Midcoast students place second — Mark Colson and Kevin Donlin, MCST — and third — Blaine Burgess, MCST.

A MCST group submission garnered an Honorable Mention in the bulletin board category for Mayake Stone, Hanna Widdecombe, Ashley Gardner, Katelyn Durkee, Emylee Leary, Rachel Pease, Lily Grace McLaughlin, Taylor Guptill, Eli McCusker, Charlotte Nichols and Sage Kelly.

The Arrive Alive Creative Contest is open to graduating high school seniors in Maine who may enter a creative project of their choice. First-place winners receive a new laptop; second-place winners a new iPad; and third-place winners a new iPod. Every student who enters receives fun prizes from the firm. A complete set of rules and all past winning entries can be viewed online at arrivealivecreativecontest.com.

In the past 11 years, the Law Offices of Joe Bornstein has given away more than $100,000 in prizes to educate teenagers on the dangers of driving. The deadline for next year’s contest is May 20. The Law Offices of Joe Bornstein is a statewide practice with six offices in Sanford, Biddeford, Portland, Lewiston, Augusta and Bangor; and specializes in personal injury and Social Security Disability law.
