Old Town — The Midcoast Mayhem, a youth baseball team in its fifth season and made up of players from Medomak Valley Little League, won the 2019 Eastern Maine Fall Baseball League.

Team members include: Wyatt Hood, Lanny Morrison, Griffin Holgerson, Wyatt Simmons, Kristian Schumann, Austin Lash, Josh Blake, Colby Simmons, Walker Simmons, Porter Gahagan, Isaac Bickford and Gabe Lash. The team was managed by Keith Simmons and coached by Matt Lash and Jason Simmons.

The team finished the five-week regular season 8-2 to enter the two-weekend playoffs as the No. 2 seed. The team finished the tournament 4-1, including coming through the loser's bracket by winning three games on Sunday, Oct. 20 to win the championship.

Midcoast opened the tournament on Oct. 13 and lost to No. 3 Maine Sting 7-0. The local team beat No. 5 Orono 8-1 to advance to "Championship Sunday" the following week.

In the first elimination game on Oct. 20, it took Midcoast extra innings to beat No. 4 Calais 2-1 in eight innings in walk-off fashion. Gahagan pitched six strong innings in the start, while Gabe Lash pitched the seventh and eighth.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the eighth, Austin Lash and Schumann led the inning with bunt singles. Holgerson laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to move Austin Lash and Schumann to second and third with one out. With two outs and down to their final strike, Austin Lash stole home — as the catcher threw the ball back to the pitcher — to tie the game. As the Calais pitcher then tried to make a play at the plate, the ball got past the catcher and Schumann — who never let up in his sprint from second — rounded third and slid into home for the improbable win.

The second game featured No. 3 Midcoast versus No. 1 Lincoln as Midcoast prevailed 4-2. Gabe Lash pitched four innings and Bickford two.

In the winner-take-all championship game, Midcoast used a six-run fifth inning to break a 1-1 tie. In the inning, Gahagan hit a grand slam. Offensive leaders for Midcoast included Gahagan (home run), Holgerson (single), Blake (double), Gabe Lash (single), Bickford (home run, triple, 2 runs), Walker Simmons (single, run), Colby Simmons (double, run), Austin Lash (walk, run), Morrison (2 walks, 2 runs), Schumann (run).

Blake pitched four solid innings and Bickford closed the door in the fifth for Midcoast's 8-1 mercy-rule title win.
