Weather Brief Dec 31, 2018

Midcoast Forecast - December 31

We are ending 2018 and heading into the new year with a round of winter weather. An area of low pressure is moving into the region that will push in snow starting around 11pm Monday and continue into the early morning hours on Tuesday. Snow will be a sticky wet snow during this time with temperatures hovering near or slightly above freezing at the surface. Snow will mix with sleet and rain at times along the coast before changing to all rain around sunrise Tuesday morning before tapering off during the mid to late morning. Snowfall totals will be lowest along the immediate coast where more mixing will occur and higher inland where temperatures will be colder. The storm will gradually clear out to the east through Tuesday with sunshine returning. South winds will be strong at times Monday night with gusts up to 40mph possible. This will build seas around 10 feet offshore prompting a Gale Warning.

Temperatures will drop as skies continue to clear into Wednesday with lows dipping into the teens and single digits and highs in the teens and low 20s. There is a chance for a quick dusting of snow as a weak disturbance moves through the region on Thursday.
