“From Here” by Kathleen Thornton of Union is part of River Arts’ “Black & White” show, juried by Bruce Brown.

Damariscotta — River Arts on Route 1 invites the public to view its newest exhibition, “Black & White,” juried by Bruce Brown. An opening reception will be held Friday, Jan. 12, from 5 to 7 p.m. and all are welcome.

The exhibition includes artwork in a variety of media — sculpture, photography, collage, painting, ceramics and fine craft — representational and abstract by Maine artists.

As curator of the Center for Maine Contemporary Art (formerly Maine Coast Artists) from 1987 to 2006, Brown introduced the work of hundreds, if not thousands, of contemporary artists to audiences in Maine. Local artists whose work he selected for “Black & White” include Charles Laurier Dufour of Belfast; Petrea Noyes of Lincolnville; Sally Stanton of Northport; Brad Beukema, Jeanette Phillipps and Jeffrey Wolff of Rockland; Gail Karlsson and Paul Karlsson of St. George; Hannah Nelsbach of Tenants Harbor; Jannetta Jennings and Kathleen Thornton of Union; and Roberta Goschke, Valerie Greene, Jean Kigel, Luke Alan Myers and Joyce Steel of Waldoboro.

The exhibition will run through Feb. 9. River Arts is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, call 563-1507 or email info@riverartsme.org.
