Rockland — Michelle Metivier Banda, 53, of Rockland, passed away Dec. 20, 2019, at Maine Medical Center in Portland, surrounded by love and family.

Michelle was born Oct. 13, 1966, in Rochester, N.Y., and was raised, along with her twin brother Michael, by Jackie and Lionel “Hap” Metivier. Though raised in New York, Michelle spent summers with her family in Tenants Harbor and later chose to make her life in the midcoast.

She graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School in Greece, N.Y., and earned her associate's degree as a medical assistant at Husson University in Bangor. She married in her early 20s and raised two children, the unwavering lights of her life, daughter Caitlin and son, Nick.

Michelle worked for 28 years as an echo-cardiology technician at Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport. She also worked in retail, hospitality, realty and property management, and raised German Shepherds for Sukee Kennel in Warren. Most recently, she was employed as a caretaker for a handful of clients very dear to her, both the two- and four-legged variety.

Michelle was a private person, who enjoyed a special connection with animals; a gift, really. She was both a horse-whisperer and dog lover. She dedicated much of her time to her horses King, Jazz, Star and Belle, and found happiness riding both competitively and for fun. She especially enjoyed riding King along Martinsville Beach and later in life on Belle, alongside friends Tracy and Heidi.

She also volunteered her time at the Humane Society and other animal related organizations.

More than anything, she loved her children, home and family. She was a dedicated and devoted mom and daughter. She was an accomplished cook, talented decorator, adept gardener and happy crafter, particularly with jewelry and quilts. She enjoyed yard sales and flea markets and could convert any space into a cozy, warm, loving home.

She was caring, insightful, patient, smart, loving, clever, loyal and chuckled readily. She will be remembered and missed by all who loved her.

She is survived by her two children Caitlin Banda (Lawrence Prior) and Nicholas Banda of Rockland; mother Jacqueline Metivier and late father, Lionel, of Martinsville; twin brother Michael (Marcia Gulino) of Tenants Harbor; and former husband David Banda of Rockland.

Michelle recently connected with her biological family, and also leaves behind biological mother Karol Woythal of Minden, Nev.; sisters Christine Woythal (Christopher Mannis) of Camillus N.Y., Cindy Woythal-Giansiracusa (Barry) of Tahoe City, Calif.; brother Jay Woythal (Carol) of Newbury Park, Calif.; nieces Maile, Juliet and Lilly, constant canine companion Abby and her beloved Belle.

A celebration of life will take place when safe to gather again; her ashes will be scattered by the edge of the sea.
