Camden — Nick Lund,, of Maine Audubon will lead an outdoor presentation titled “The State of Maine’s Loons” at Merryspring Nature Center Tuesday, Oct. 20 at noon.

“The State of Maine's Loons” focuses on the common loon, a Maine icon. For many, this beautiful bird and its echoing calls provide the soundtrack to summer on a Maine lake. For more than 30 years, Maine Audubon has been engaging communities to help monitor the state’s loon population. Lund’s presentation will be a celebration of the common loon, and a discussion of the challenges it faces and the work being done to protect them.

Nick Lund is Maine Audubon's Network and Outreach Manager. He is also a writer focusing on birds and science, with regular columns in the Portland Phoenix and in the National Audubon Society magazine, and bylines in Slate, the Washington Post, and others.
