Rev. Dr. Susan Stonestreet will be installed as the settled pastor of the Federated Church of Thomaston on Sunday, October 6th.  Her installation will take place as a part of the regular Sunday morning service, with a special starting time of 10:15 a.m. A light lunch will be served after the service. Susan holds a Master of Divinity Degree (1999) and a Doctor of Ministry Degree (2007) from Bangor Theological Seminary in Bangor, Maine. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in American Studies (1970) and a Master of Science Degree in Personnel Counseling (1976) from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

Susan was the pastor of United Christian Church in Lincolnville Center, Maine for 18 1/2 years before retiring from that pastorate in June, 2017. She began her ministry in Lincolnville in 1999 following her ordination in the United Church of Christ in the same year. Susan was a member of the Adjunct Faculty of Bangor Theological Seminary, teaching courses in preaching and reflective practice. She came out of retirement in January, 2019 to serve as interim pastor for the Federated Church of Thomaston. After serving in this capacity for six months, the congregation invited her to be their settled pastor as of July, 2019.

Susan’s interests include the challenge of bringing the Scriptures to life in sermons and pastoral conversations, teaching about the power of words to both hurt and heal, being present for and to those facing death and offering support to their families. She is often called upon to officiate memorial services and funerals in cooperation with a local funeral home.

The Federated Church of Thomaston has been affiliated with the United Church of Christ and the United Methodist Church since 1927. Its members come from each of those denominations and others. All are invited to worship and offer service to the local community and beyond. Built in 1857, the church building is a lovely example of Victorian architecture. It is handicapped accessible. The church is located at 8 Hyler Street in Thomaston, just a block over form Main Street/Route 1.

For more information, contact Susan at 207-322-1948 (cell) or via the church phone 207-354-6105. All are invited to this special Sunday morning service on October 6th .
