From the desk of PMHS Events Coordinator Kasey Bielecki:

Are you ready to Eat for Pete’s Sake? On Sept. 19, why not show your support for both Pope Memorial Humane Society and local restaurants by dining out in support of local homeless animals?

Now in its 12th year, Eat for Pete’s Sake has become a day for participating restaurants to donate a portion of their day’s sales to Pope Memorial Humane Society in honor of Pete. Who is Pete? Each year we choose one of our wonderful shelter dogs to represent all homeless animals and crown him “Pete” as the face of all animals in need.

This year “Pete” is Bradley, who came to Pope Memorial Humane Society as one of 75 collies and more than 90 animals seized by the state. Bradley is roughly 5 years old and has not had an easy life. For the majority of his life, Bradley was held in a pen with more than 20 other dogs with little to no human interaction.

He is quickly learning that we want nothing but to love him and shower him with affection. Each day Bradley makes progress, whether it is learning that he does not have to cower at the human touch or that the grass under his paws is a good thing. We love seeing him learn how to “dog” and know that once he is officially available for adoption, we will find him the perfect home.

By dining at participating restaurants Sept. 19, you will help raise money for homeless animals like Bradley in our care at Pope Memorial Humane Society.

2019 Eat for Pete’s Sake restaurants include:

Visit our website at PopeHumane.org for the most up-to-date list of participating restaurants. If your restaurant would like to participate, there is still time. Call the shelter at 594-2200 and ask for Kasey.
