Little League tournament

Medomak Valley 9-10 softball players to make state pitch

By Staff | Jul 12, 2018

Glenburn — This year marks the second straight that the Medomak Valley Little League 9- and 10-year-old softball team will  — by default — represent District 2 in the state tournament.

As the only team in District 2 to field a group in the age division, Medomak Valley moves on to the double-elimination state tournament in Glenburn. The tourney begins on Saturday, July 14 and concludes on Sunday, July 22.

Medomak Valley’s first game will be against District 1 champion Ellsworth on Saturday, July 14 at 2:30 p.m.

District 3 champion Hermon, District 4 champion Kennebunk-Wells and District 6 champion Windham comprise the five-team field. District 5 did not field a team this season.

Medomak Valley t members, led by manager Andrea Williamson and coaches Richard Williamson and Katie Nicholls, include Peyton Eaton, Sidney Nicholls, Rachel Barbour, Kytana Williamson, Haylee Chandler, Kendall Simmons, Ariel Castner, Arianna Sproul, Arianna Kennard, Emma Haney, Chloe Fox and Audrianna Jackson.

Andrea Williamson said her team has practiced twice a week at John Foster Field in Waldoboro and have had a number of area teams scrimmage Medomak Valley since June 15.

“[We] asked local 9-, 10- and 11-year-olds from the Damariscotta, Camden and Oceanside area to come play together against our team,” she said. “This has been good for us to experience game-like situations and we can stop these and go over some plays for the girls to learn.”

She added that Sidney Nicholls, Jackson, Barbour, Kytana Williamson, Sproul and Kennard were on last year’s state team and that “their experiences will help our team this year.”

“Our pitchers are fast and ready,” Andrea Williamson said. “We have a core base of three pitchers that were all on our regular season Diamondbacks team that won the championship. Our fielding is also looking sharp with all our returning players from last year ready to play the infield.”
