Medical resident turns investigator in ‘Coma’

THOMASTON — The Friends of the Thomaston Public Library’s Friday Night Film Series, screening films weekly at 6:30 p.m. in Room 200 of the library, 60 Main St./Route 1, focuses on movies featuring “Deceit at the Top” this month.

On Friday, Sept. 13, the series screens “Coma” (1978, USA). Boston medical resident Susan Wheeler (Genevieve Bujold) becomes suspicious when her friend (Lois Chiles) is left in an irreversible coma after a routine procedure. She uncovers evidence of other patients being left in comas after undergoing procedures in the same operating room. When her physician boyfriend (Michael Douglas) is skeptical about her findings, Susan must go it alone to uncover the horrible truth, putting herself in danger. Directed by Michael Crichton.

The PG-rated film runs 113 minutes. Upcoming in the “Deceit at the Top” series are: Sept. 23, “All the President's Men” (1976, USA); and Sept. 27, “Moving the Mountain” (1994, UK).
