McLain shows at Waldo Theatre

Crystal McLain’s expressive works often blend the surreal with realistic objects. Pictured is “Foxy Hipster.”

Waldoboro — The Waldo Theatre, 319 Main St./Route 220, will participate in Artwalk Waldoboro — Saturday, July 14, from 4 to 7 p.m. — and then present another movie night at Odd Alewives Farm Brewery.

The theater will be open to the public for tours and to view the work of featured artist Crystal McLain during the art walk. To learn more about Artwalk Waldoboro and see a map, visit artwalkwaldoboro.com.

The walls of the Waldo Theatre will feature the dynamic work of Bristol’s McLain, a massage therapist by day and artist by night. McLain has written and illustrated the children’s book “The Almost Rhyming Hipster Critter Alphabet Book”; created two coloring books, “Lucid Dreams” I and II; and turned her vibrant prints into cards and journals. After Artwalk Waldoboro, people are invited to head up the hill to Odd Alewives Farm Brewery, located at 99 Old Route 1, for a movie night, starting at 8 p.m. This month’s feature is Stanley Donan’s Oscar-nominated crime caper “Charade,” starring Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn. Odd Alewives will have beer, and the Waldo will provide popcorn. The event is free, with a suggested donation for the popcorn to go toward the nonprofit Waldo Theatre's renovations.
