MCHT Teen Agricultural Crew to hold presentation Jan. 22

Jan 11, 2019
Over the past season the MCHT Teen Ag Crew produced over 30,000 pounds of vegetables to be distributed to local organizations.

Rockport — Maine Coast Heritage Trust’s Teen Agricultural Crew and staff invite the public to join them for a presentation on Tuesday, Jan. 22 at Camden Hills Regional High School, 25 Keelson Drive, Rockport. The presentation, starting at 3:30 p.m. in the cafeteria, will be an opportunity for the public to learn about the Teen Ag Crew program that grows a four-acre vegetable garden at Erickson Fields Preserve on Route 90, in Rockport.

The produce from the market garden is distributed to eight food relief agencies throughout Knox, Lincoln and Waldo counties as well as MSAD 28, Quarry Hill Retirement Community and several local restaurants. Through diligent, cohesive teamwork the Teen Ag Crew manages from seed to distribution over 30 different crops at Erickson Fields, learning the A to Z’s of market garden production. This past season the Teen Ag Crew produced over 30,000 pounds of vegetables, most of which supplied local food pantries through a contract with Good Shepard Food Bank. Since the program started in 2010, the Teen Ag Crew has distributed nearly 100,000 pounds of produce to local food pantries.

During the presentation, attendees will meet the high school crew members, sample dishes featuring Erickson Fields produce, and learn about youth-led food security and access projects happening in the Midcoast. For more information and to RSVP, contact jalbury@mcht.org or 236-2739.
