Camden — Portland-based Eric McDonald, backed by Bethany Waickman, will be make a Midcoast debut in the Camden Library Coffeehouse series Thursday, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m. at the downtown Camden Public Library. The duo plays mandolin and guitar, with vocals.

McDonald’s first solo album, "Rove," includes a number of mandolin/guitar duets with guitarist Waickman and culminates a decade performing and teaching traditional music in New England. The early part of his career was spent cutting his teeth as a mandolinist in the rich local folk and roots music scene in Boston; and attending Berklee College of Music.

McDonald soon found a gateway into the realm of traditional music through playing for contra dances; and found a particular niche in the Scottish and Cape Breton realm.

The duo will offer a diverse set of tunes, including some original compositions; some recent ones by modern musicians such as Phil Cunningham and Keith Murphy; and some very old traditional material.

Both McDonald and Waickman were Maine Fiddle Camp faculty members this year. Admission at the door will be $10.
