Camden — Mary Edith Tolman, 94, widow of Guild Tolman, passed away April 10, 2021, with family by her side at the Sussman House in Rockport.

She was the youngest of nine children born to parents Alfred and Emma Davis March 29, 1927. She graduated from Rockland High School in Massachusetts in 1945 and from Brockton Business College. She was a bookkeeper at the Rockland Trust Company in Mass.

On Sept. 16, 1951, she married Guild Tolman from Hanover, Mass. They built their first home in Hanover by hand, where they resided for 20 years raising their family. She was always organizing family gatherings and cookouts at Duxbury Beach.

In 1970, the family moved to Owls Head, where Edith enjoyed planting and harvesting her large vegetable garden. She became a member of the Owls Head Garden Club and the Owls Head Baptist Church.

In 1975, she was elected as tax collector and town treasurer for the town of Owls Head, serving for 11 years. Twenty years later in 1995 after her husband retired, they moved to the family homestead in Camden, where she lived for the remainder of her life.

She loved bird watching, reading and crossword puzzles. Most important was her pride in her grandchildren and all they have accomplished.

Edith is survived by her daughter Cheryl Tolman English of Thomaston; sons Brian Tolman and wife Colleen of Warren, Bruce Tolman and wife Susan of Camden and grandchildren Tim English, Erica Tolman and Melanie Tolman.

There will be a private celebration of life at a later date.

To share condolences, mail to the Tolman family at P.O. Box 227, West Rockport ME 04865.
