Mariners top Bulldogs, Red Eddies down Windjammers in course matches

The Oceanside and Camden Hills golf teams have had opposite starts to the high school campaign, as the Mariners sit on a 2-1 record early in the regular season, while Camden Hills has yet to win a match with an 0-3 mark.

The Windjammers most recent loss came in a road match at Edward Little of Auburn on Tuesday, Sept. 3 as the young, rebuilding Windjammers fell 8.5-0.5 at the hands of the Red Eddies.

The Mariners doubled their win total with a 6.5-2.5 victory over Lawrence of Fairfield on Friday, Aug. 30.

The following is a recap of both matches:

Edward Little 8.5, Camden Hills 0.5

At Fox Ridge Golf Club in Auburn Sept. 3, the Red Eddies defended their home links with ease as they drove, chipped and putted past the Windjammers. Edward Little finished with a four-golfer stroke total of 167 to 202 for Camden Hills.

The individual scores for Camden Hills included: Parker Hilchey 43, Johnathan Mahoney 50, Shiyan Kesser 52, Even Fagonde 69, Aiden O’Connell 59, Bryler Fisher 57, Owen Berez 62 and Aiden Schecter.

The individual scores for Edward Little included: Colin Merritt 40, Will Cassidy 38, Nate McBride, Harrison Gray 53, Clay Robbins 46, Chris Frey 55, Shane Killey 56 and Keagan Moon 50.

Cassidy was the medalist with 38.

Oceanside 6.5, Lawrence 2.5

At Clinton Golf Club Aug. 30, the Mariners picked up their second win of the season. Oceanside finished with a four-golfer stroke total of 219 to 233 for Lawrence.

The individual results, with Oceanside golfers listed first, were: Austin Chilles (45) beat Jacob Suttie (52), 1-up; Darik Johnson (57) beat Alan Bourget (61), 2-up; Carter Fogarty (56) halved with Brody Bickford (63); Mason Curtis (61) lost to Corbin Kissinger (60), 1-down; Colin Landry (69) lost to Gage Boudreau (60), 1-down; and Nate Fogarty (62) beat Jesse Dixon (68), 4+3.

Chillis earned medalist honors at 45.
