Mariners again in domination mode in sweep of Eagles

Oceanside girls remain unbeaten as Mackie, Woodman lead charge, boys improve to 8-1 behind Kingsbury

The Oceanside basketball teams prevailed in lopsided high school court victories over Lincoln Academy of Newcastle on Wednesday, Feb. 17, as the girls remained unbeaten (9-0) and the boys ascended to 8-1.

The boys turned out their highest scoring output of the year in an 86-26 road win, while the girls netted 70 points for the second time this year in a 70-30 home victory.

Girls

Oceanside 70, Lincoln Academy 30

At Rockland Feb. 17, the Mariners went on the offensive — and then some — to the tune of a 40-point victory over the Eagles. Oceanside led 23-10, 46-17 and 61-26 at the quarter breaks.

Audrey Mackie netted 22 points for Oceanside, while Grace Woodman added 17; Anna Kingsbury, eight; Abby Waterman, seven; Grace VanBuskirk, six; Emily Sykes, five; Natalee Hitz, three; and Ahlivia Morris, two.

Waterman added 11 rebounds and four steals, while Sykes grabbed nine rebounds and Woodman chipped in four assists and four steals.

Lizzie Ober led Lincoln Academy with 10 points, while Paige Lafrenaye added seven; Reegan Dunican, six; Annie Peaslee, four; Kaydence Walker, two; and Natalie Kaler, one.

The Mariners finished 7-of-14 (50 percent) from the foul line and Eagles 5-of-8 (62 percent).

Boys

Oceanside 86, Lincoln Academy 26

At Newcastle Feb. 17, the Mariners churned out their highest scoring output of the season over the host Eagles. Oceanside led 18-6, 43-8 and 69-17 at the quarter breaks.

Cam Kingsbury scored 22 points for the Mariners, while Everett Allyn added 15; Gavyn Tower, 12; Elliot Lucier, 10; Nathan Coombs, six; Landdon Willis, Alex Bartlett, Cohen Galley and Jack Elwell, four; and Austin Chilles and Hayden Jacques, three.

Nick Prior keyed the Eagles with nine points, while Lucas Houghton and Gabe Hagar added six; Colin Dalton, three; and Riley DeLisle, one.

Oceanside netted 8-of-15 free throws (53 percent) and Lincoln Academy 6-of-14 (43 percent).
