Mariner junior stickers enjoy unbeaten season

Oceanside finishes with 11 wins, two ties in 13 games
By Staff | Nov 21, 2019

Rockland — The Oceanside High School varsity field hockey team had a tough 2019 campaign, as the Mariners logged four wins and fell short of the Class B North playoffs.

However, help, as they say, is on the way.

The Mariner junior varsity, comprised of nine players (the team played a 7-on-7 style as opposed to traditional 11-on-11), put together an unbeaten season, as many student-athletes appear poised to make the jump to the varsity ranks next year.

Led by coach Lauren Casey, Oceanside earned an 11-0-2 record, as the games provided the players “with a great opportunity to try new positions and get their stick on the ball.”

Team members included Winter Adams, Vandrieli Barcellos, Colette Black, Haley Black, Allison Colburn, Hannah Grindle, Cassidy Novicka, Maria Prothero and Erin Stevenson.

“Our young players really worked well together and showed steady improvement over the course of the season,” said Casey. “Their transition to the high school level of playing has been smooth and a pleasure to watch. I’m very proud of our team for all of the hard work and high energy they put into a fantastic season.”
