Mariner girls blank Bears, Eagles down Panthers in Sept. 5 play

Camden Hills pitch contests at Bangor postponed

While a handful of area high school soccer games were postponed due to thunder and lightning storms around the state on Tuesday, Sept. 5, squads from Medomak Valley and Oceanside were in action, which resulted in a mixed bag of results.

The Panthers were downed by Erskine Academy of South China, while the Oceanside girls blanked Maranacook of Readfield.

The Oceanside and Maranacook boys game in Readfield was moved to Saturday, Sept. 16 at 11 a.m.

The Class A North regional championship rematches between Camden Hills and host Bangor also were moved, with the girls game slated for Thursday, Sept. 7 at 6 p.m. and the boys on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 1 p.m. — both in Bangor.

Girls soccer

Oceanside 2, Maranacook 0

At Thomaston Sept. 5, the Mariners blanked the visiting Black Bears. Oceanside held a 1-0 edge at halftime.

Casey Pine and Hope Butler each scored in the win for Oceanside off assists from Abby Veilleux and Cassidy Boynton.

The Mariners held a 19-8 edge in shots, while the Black Bears held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks. Raechel Joyce made five saves for Oceanside, while Skyeler Webb made seven saves for Maranacook.

Pine started the scoring for Oceanside when she headed in a free kick from Veilleux with 1:15 remaining in the first half, while Butler added an insurance goal in the second with 32:14 left in the game after finishing a crossing pass from Boynton.

Erskine Academy 2, Medomak Valley 0

At South China Sept. 5, the Eagles blanked the visiting Panthers. Erskine Academy led 2-0 at halftime.

Lauren Wood creased the net twice in the win for the hosts.

Kayla Donlin made four saves in goal for Medomak Valley, while Taylor Shute made two saves for Erskine Academy. The Eagles held a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.

Boys soccer

Erskine Academy 3, Medomak Valley 1

At Waldoboro Sept. 5, the Panthers scored first, but the Eagles soared to three second-half goals en route to victory. Medomak Valley led 1-0 at halftime.

Will Smith scored for the Panthers off an assist from Nicholas Hill with 23:46 left in the first half when Smith fired a shot that went through the hands of the Erskine Academy keeper and into the net.

Austin Dunn, Seth Reed and Michael Sprague each logged goals for the Eagles.

Aiden Starr made six saves for Medomak Valley and David McGraw four saves for Erskine Academy. The Eagles held a 9-5 edge in shots.
