Rockland — A real estate and construction management company has placed a lien and filed a lawsuit against the owner of a downtown apartment complex that underwent a major overhaul earlier this year.

Jimmy's Rentals, LLC filed a lawsuit Oct,. 25 in the Knox County Court against 18 Lindsey Street, LLC and its owner Evan McKeith of Jackson Hole, Wyo.

Jimmy Rentals became manager of the 16-unit apartment complex at 18 Lindsey St. in August 2018 after reaching a written agreement with McKeith, according to the lawsuit.

In February 2019, the parties agreed that Jimmy's Rentals would provide construction services and renovate the complex.

The lawsuit claims McKeith has failed to pay for the work and owes Jimmy's Rentals $72,280.

The management company seeks that money as well as interest, attorneys' fees, and related court costs.

McKeith has yet to file a response to the lawsuit.

Jimmy's Rentals is represented by attorney Dana Strout of Rockport. McKeith could not be reached for comment.

James Leach of Jimmy's Rentals discussed the major renovation project for an article published in March in the Courier-Gazette.

Leach said the renovations were part of re-branding the apartments that had a less than desirable reputation with many police calls to the Lindsey Street apartments.

The overhaul included a complete renovation of the interiors of the 1977-built building. The flooring was replaced. Shaker-style cabinets and woodwork were installed. Larger windows were installed and the solid exterior doors were replaced with doors that have a window.

LED lighting and new plumbing, along with stainless-steel appliances, were also part of the renovated apartment complex.
