Hope — A Hope man can avoid jail under an agreement reached Thursday with the state on the charge that he had sex with a dog and videotaped the act.

Nicholase W. Hill pleaded guilty Oct. 31 in the Knox County court to cruelty to animals.

Under terms of a deferred disposition he reached with the District Attorney's Office, Hill is required to undergo a mental health evaluation and counseling. He must also perform 60 hours of community service.

Hill is prohibited from contact with canines under the deferred disposition.

If Hill adheres to those terms, he will be fined $250.

If he fails to abide by the agreement, he will have to spend 14 days in jail as well as the fine.

Judge Patricia Worth approved the agreement. Hill was represented by attorney David Paris of Bath.

Hill was arrested the evening of Aug. 28 and charged with Class D cruelty to animals. He was released on bail the following day after posting $250 cash.

According to an affidavit filed in Knox County Court in Rockland, Knox County Sheriff's Office Detective Justin Twitchell received a complaint Aug. 20 from a citizen who reported that he believed Hill had been having sex with his dog.

After interviewing another witness, the Sheriff's Office was provided a video sent by Hill through Facebook messenger to the witness in which the sexual act is shown, according to the affidavit.

Make the mistake of having a short lobster or dig clams in the wrong area and they throw the book at you...sex with a dog, no big deal.  Sends a strong message to every wack job out there.   Lord, help us.  -SM

This is just absolutely disgusting! this just shows once again how very liberal and leftist our justice system is! It makes me sick that people can do things like this and they get less than a slap on the wrist. I'm sure that my tax dollars will be paying for his counseling! -melanie Keene
