Camden — "Sorry, wrong number," took on a new meaning for a Camden man Friday, July 7, when he mistakenly called a capitol police officer in Augusta in an effort to make a drug deal.

The quick-thinking officer played along, and it resulted in the arrests of two people.

Tyler Collins, 42, of Camden, was arrested Friday night by Camden Police Officers Chris Hansen and Tim Davis and charged with trafficking in drugs, according to records in Knox County Court.

Collins was taken to the Knox County Jail in Rockland and made his initial appearance Monday, July 10, in court, where Judge Barbara Riamondi set bail at $1,000 cash. At the request of Collins, Riamondi agreed to allow him to make bail if he could put up $10,000 in property as surety.

As of Monday evening, he was still at the jail.

According to Camden police, Collins tried to call a customer to sell him Suboxone. Instead, Collins called Capitol Police Officer Charles Ball. Ball was quick-thinking and continued with the telephone call, not letting on that Collins had called the wrong number.

Ball then called Camden police and alerted them of the proposed deal. The Camden officers were in place and stopped Collins and a second individual at about 9:30 p.m. Friday on Elm Street in Camden.

Also charged was Katarina Campbell, 39, of Rockport, for trafficking in drugs, according to Camden police. She was released upon her arrest.
