‘Major Pettigrew’ goes Intergenerational

Thomaston — The Thomaston Intergenerational Book Club will discuss “Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand” by Helen Simonson Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 2:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend the event, which will take place at Thomaston Public Library, located in the historic Thomaston Academy building on Main Street/Route 1.

In this massively successful 2010 debut novel, staid, stuffy and eminently respectable Ernest Pettigrew and Pakistani shopkeeper Jasmina Ali grow to know each better. As they do, they contend with issues of class, race, inheritance and annoying relatives.

On the third Tuesday of each month, the Thomaston Intergenerational Book Club, a group of men and women of all ages, comes together to share their opinions and ideas about the book selection. Extra copies of the books are purchased by the Friends of the Thomaston Public Library from the Annual Appeal funds; donations are welcome.

Courier Publications’ A&E Editor Dagney C. Ernest can be reached at (207) 594-4401, ext. 115 or dernest@courierpublicationsllc.com.
