Major changes in Midcoast Community Chorus plans

Sep 11, 2019

CAMDEN — Midcoast Community Chorus (MCC) wishes to announce significant changes and events pertaining to its upcoming Fall Semester and traditional January concert. Because of the sudden illness of our irreplaceable Artistic Director Steven Weston, MCC’s Board of Directors made the decision to take a hiatus from performing this winter semester.

Registration has been CANCELLED for the Mondays of Sept. 16 and 23, as well as online. Those who have already registered and paid the membership fee will be contacted individually to arrange for reimbursement.

MCC will not have performances this semester by either Chorus or Chorale. January concerts will not take place.

We are still planning to meet as a singing community on Monday, Sept. 16, at 6 p.m. at The First Congregational Church, 55 Elm St., Camden, the usual rehearsal space for MCC.

This decision holds the intention to allow for Steve Weston’s journey of recovery and to continue to afford regular singing opportunities for members - past, present and future. We all look forward to Steve’s return next semester.

The Community Sing of Monday, Sept. 16, will be both a tribute to and celebration of Steve. It will also be the first of monthly community sings for everyone, perhaps linked to a potluck dinner. We will sing old favorites, songs from our library, requests from members, holiday songs, and the like. Most important, we will sing for the fun of it! As for musical leadership, talented folks in our community will try their hand at conducting. For this special sing on the 16th, we will have music ready and Sean Fleming will be our accompanist. There is the possibility of videotaping it to forward to Steve. We will stay and sing until the music runs out! Come and join us!
