CUSHING — Those who think they know everything about the Titanic story will learn more, namely the Maine connection, from author Mac Smith on Sunday, Sept. 15, at 2 p.m. at the Cushing Public Library, 39 Cross Road. It is free and open to the public.

Smith has meticulously researched the stories of Maine passengers and their loved ones on land for his book "Mainers on the Titanic," published by Down East Books. Many of these were wealthy — and well known — summer visitors to fashionable Mount Desert Island, but other state residents were also aboard.

The book follows these passengers from boarding to the wrenching moments of the sinking and — for some — rescue, along with the agonizing wait by relatives and friends.

Smith, a Navy veteran and former reporter for the Bar Harbor Times, currently lives in Stockton Springs.
