Maine SNAP-Ed program offers free classes

May 26, 2021

The Maine SNAP-Ed program, offered through Pen Bay Medical center and Waldo County General Hospital, provides nutrition education services in settings like schools, food pantries, Head Starts, and other childcare settings, grocery stores, and regional DHHS offices. The program is made up of over 35 Nutrition Educators and Program Coordinators located statewide and aims to reach every community within the state of Maine to provide nutrition education to low-income Mainers. Three free classes are coming up.

Summer Spritzers will be offered online Wednesday, June 9 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Learn how to make simple, refreshing beverages at home that feel special but won’t break the bank.

Simple Summer Sweets is offered Monday, June 21 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Participants will see Nutrition Educator Kaitlyn Johnson transform everyday ingredients into something just as sweet and refreshing as the classic summer treat, but with a little more nutritional bang for its buck!

Eating Better on a Budget is offered Mondays, June 21 to July 19 (no class July 5) from noon to 1p.m. Nutrition Educators from Knox and Waldo counties will present this free four-week class that will give participants the skills to shop, cook and eat healthy foods while stretching their SNAP dollars and staying within their grocery budget. There will be recipe demonstrations at each virtual session. All participants will receive a cookbook with 24 healthy, low-cost recipes and nutrition tips.

All classes are online. Preregistration is required in order to obtain virtual access. Visit or call 301-3950 to register.
