Rockland — Author and veteran hiker Carey Kish will present an illustrated talk about hikes included in the new edition of the “Maine Mountain Guide” Thursday, Oct. 18, at 6:30 p.m. at Rockland Public Library, 80 Union St.

The “Maine Mountain Guide,” published by the Appalachian Mountain Club, is the only comprehensive hiking guide to the mountain trails of Maine, an essential companion for outdoor enthusiasts since 1961. This newest edition was two years in the making and has been painstakingly revised, updated and expanded by author/editor Kish.

Kish will lead audience members on a journey of discovery from Acadia National Park to Aroostook County, Maine’s White Mountains to Washington County. Carey will highlight many new hikes and the best of local hikes near Rockland, as well as some old favorites. After time for questions and answers, signed copies of the “Maine Mountain Guide” will be available for purchase.

In addition to the AMC “Maine Mountain Guide,” Kish is the author of AMC’s “Best Day Hikes Along the Maine Coast.” He is the longtime hiking and camping columnist for the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram; and writes the outdoor adventure blog “Maineiac Outdoors” at MaineToday.com. His writing and photos have appeared in numerous publications. Kish is currently working on two more books: “Exploring Maine, One Trail at a Time,” an anthology of his hiking and camping adventures over the years; and “Trails & Ales: A Hiking & Walking Guide to Maine’s Microbreweries & Brewpubs.”

This event is free and open to the public. For more information, call 594-0310.
